Vishnu : The Sky-gazing Astronomer Emperor


Is Vishnu, a Mythical Heavenly Lord or a Real Astronomer?

*Titles: Veetinen, Thirumal, Perumal, Ranganathan

*Symbols:  Chakram/Flat disc, Sangu/Conch, Snakebed, Fiveheaded snake, Mostly lying down and skygazing pose, Blue skinned denoting sky

*Lived around 3800 years BP in Thamizhagam 

*Astronomer, Mathematician and King, Emperor known around Asia (Depicted as sky gazer lying down) 

*Discovered Gravitational force and elliptical orbits of heavenly objects > depicted with an orbit "Chakram" in one hand 

* Studied the movements of the moon thoroughly and discovered that 108 as the magical number connecting Sun,Moon and Earth and the reason for solar eclipse( Sun and Moon appearing the same size) and that the moon’s orbital motion was irregular like that of the snake, hence lying on snake bed. So he has 108 divine shrines dedicated to him to honor his discoveries..

* Expanded Farming in many parts of Asia thus associated with Pachaiamma/Meenatchi, the farming or Earth Goddess

* Ran an auto-emerged (not conquered) empire across Asia and Aaseevaham was spread all over Asia during his time. Word "Asia" derives itself from Aasu or the birthplace of Aaseevagam : the southern part of subcontinent and Lanka.
Probably the first emperor. 

* Attained Nirvanam and named Veetinen as Lord of the Heaven/Cosmos as Heaven is Veedu/Home of the souls. 

* Invented Panchaangam or 5-aspect Almanac, complex calendar for astrology and predicting rare astronomical events like eclipses by intuiting lunar nodes as Shadow planets called Rahu and Ketu to track the movement of moon and occurence of eclipses

* Calculated the Sidereal calender and contributed to astronomy and astrology by designing 12 constellations and made the Zodiac Wheel with legendary personalities of Thamizhagam

* Invented Tamili alphabet writing system

* Convened the 3rd Thamizh Sangam/conference as the 2nd was lost by the intervening Mahabharath War that happened in the southernmost area of the subcontinent

* Imaginary Female Counterparts:

Sri Devi/ Latchumi/Lakshmi, = House or Domestic Goddess

Aandal/ Bhu Devi = Earth goddess 

* Constellation: Thiruvonam (Respected Onam Star), Aquila ( Agilam/ cosmos/ Universe)

* God of war , thunder, lightning, rains, farming,
wetland farming, fertility, inventor of Soma drink to induce spirituality ,mastered 5 miraculous, superhuman powers

Ainthiram : Ain-5 + Thiram – powers, ability to levitate, appear and disappear (like Harry Potter’s Apparition!)

*Contributed to astronomy, astrology, weather prediction, ocean-navigation, fishing, farming (rice cultivation), irrigation and water management, carpentry, transport innovation like cart, chariot, vimana, etc.

* Once worshiped and celebrated in Thamizhagam in coastal city of Poompuhar in the festival of Indran- IndraVizha, now discontinued 

Agathiar, Kuberan, Krishnar, Ganesan, are other deities in Thamizh pantheon and are prevalent around Asia , but mostly not seen in other regions..
